Reaching Blackbird
Go BackTucked away along a rustic track at the back of an idyllic private lake; its only possible to arrive at Blackbird by car (or montain bike at a push!)
Close to Holsworthy on the Devon/Cornwall border, Blackbird is around a two and a half hour drive from Bristol, and five hours from London. Regular trains run to Exeter, which is roughly an hour’s drive from Blackbird.

Please make sure you follow Google Maps to the ACCESS TO BLACKBIRD, not to Blackbird itself; Google will take you to the back of the lake and then expect you to walk over the fields and fences!
Blackbird is around an hour’s drive from Exeter. Directions are as follows:
Heading west along the A30 pass the first exit for ‘Okehampton Services’.
Exit the A30 at Sourton Cross, signposted… ‘Bude, Holsworthy’ (A3079).
At Fowley Cross roundabout, turn left, joining the A3079 for about 12 miles, passing through Halwill Junction.
At the wooded T-junction, turn left on the A3072 towards Holsworthy.
After 3 miles, having passed the Recycling Centre, there’s a 4-way junction called Anvil Corner; turn right here for Bideford.
Half a mile on, as the road descends, you’ll pass a white bungalow on the left.
50m further, on the left is the wooded entrance to Blagdon Water.
Bear left repeatedly along the track through the young trees and follow the signs for the Blackbird.
Blackbird is moored at the far end of the lake, so keep left until you reach us at the very end.
Unfortunately, it’s not possible to charge your electric car at Blackbird. We’re off-grid, and all Blackbird’s energy comes from solar energy stored in giant domestic batteries; plenty for your stay, but not for charging vehicles.
Here’s a link to our nearest fast-charge points.
Regular trains run to Exeter and Plymouth from London and Bristol. Both stations are approximately an hour's drive from the property. Check GWR’s timetables here.
