Tregulland & Co Dos and Don'ts
All of our houses are set up thoughtfully and carefully for you to have the best holiday. Using your own common sense (as you would naturally eg don't touch the electric fence, dont let children in the poolhouse unattended etc) to use the house normally there is no need to be overly concerned.

Tregulland Cottage & Barn
Take Care
We want you to have the best time here at Tregulland, but please be aware that there are rules and dangers...
- ALWAYS shut the gates – there are often sheep grazing in our field.
- Be mindful of the electric fence around fishing lake.
- Absolutely NO FIREWORKS allowed – As we are deep in active farmland, there are always sheep, cows and horses in the fields around us, even if you can’t see them.
- Please don’t pour unused milk or alcohol down the sinks. We have a reed bed filtration system which cannot process it. Please leave unused milk or alcohol for the cleaners to deal with.
- No swimming in fishing lake or river.
- Overhead power lines means its unsafe to fly kites.
- No dogs inside the electric fence beside the lake or inside pool house.
- No children in pool house unsupervised.
- No food or drink and absolutely NO glass at all in pool house.
- Be safe around the hot tub; the open fire, metal surround and the water itself can get very hot.
- Do not allow ANYONE (especially children) to walk on the green roofs or any flat roof, they're not designed to take any weight.
Inside
- No smoking
- No candles/naked flames
Outside
- Always shut all the gates - regardless of how you find them
- No Fireworks or chinese lanterns allowed- farmland
- No Kites - overhead cables
Children
- Be careful of the electric fence around the fishing lake - only touch the blue plastic handles
- It is not recommended children to go in the hot tub or steam room as they can't regulate their body temperature
- Children are not allowed to be left unsupervised anywhere in Tregulland especially the poolhouse
Dogs
We welcome well behaved dogs at Tregulland... however:
- Please make sure you clear up all dog poo from around the houses and grounds and put the bagged waste in the clearly labelled dog poo bin in the Cottage car park bin store, please make sure all dog poo bags are tied securely and only put in here.
- Dogs are not allowed on the beds/furniture, and are not to be left alone in the houses, nor are they allowed upstairs or in the bedrooms.
- No dogs allowed in the pool house, nor inside the electric fence around the lake as they distress the nesting Canada geese.
- As Tregulland is deep in the countryside, dogs need to be kept under close supervision to stop them from going into neighbouring farmland
Hot Tub - Be Careful
- Never leave children unattended near the outdoor wood burner/oven, hot tub or sauna when they are in use.
- Open fires and very hot water are dangerous.
- Always stir the water with the paddle before getting in as the surface layer of the water can become much hotter than in the body of the tub. Always check the temperature before getting in.
- The chimney flue and fire barrel get searingly hot- NEVER TOUCH IT!
- Only hold the fire barrel lid by the outer handles as the rest gets extremely hot.
- Children may never use the hot tub unsupervised, it is not recommended that children are allowed in the hot tub as they can’t regulate their body temperature.
- Due to issues around standing water and Legionnaire’s disease: never reheat yesterday’s hot tub. Please always empty the hot tub and refill anew each day.
- Please make sure you either attach the lid with the clips and straps provided or leave it safely in the spa room as the wind can pick it up and throw it around if left lying outside. This insulated lid is surprisingly expensive to make, and so sadly we will have to charge you if any damage is caused by or to the loose hot tub lid.
NB: Please put out the fire, drain and wipe down the tub after use.
Fire Pits
- We have supplied two fire pits to keep you toasty outside-
- Please only use logs from the outdoor stores (in the cottage outdoor porch near the hot tub) please do not empty the house stores.
Wood Burners
- All the fires have been set for easy lighting.
- Do not leave anything on top of a lit wood burner nor leave the door open once lit.
- There is kindling, logs, firelighters and instructions etc so you can light your own fires.
- If you need more logs email us on Help@tregulland.co.uk
Freshwater Indoor Swimming Pool
- The main pool is 1.2m deep.
- The children’s pool is 40cms deep.
- Please read the safety notices by the main entrance door of the Pool House.
- No outdoor shoes allowed inside unless with protective shoe covers provided.
- As the water is cleaned by plants the temperature is normally about 28°. You cannot make the water any hotter.
- There are no life guards on duty so children must be supervised at all times.
- Absolutely no dogs allowed in the Pool House.
- Please shower before using the swimming pool. The Cornish spring water comes from our own borehole and the pool is cleaned using specialist plant based filter technology (no chlorine!) Any deodorants, cosmetics, moisturisers and sun creams can affect the delicate balance of the water, so washing beforehand is essential.
Steam Room
- Please read carefully and stick to the advice on the safety notices by the steam room entrance door.
- It is not recommended you allow children in the steam room as they can’t control their body temperature.
- The steam room takes a few minutes to warm up.
- When finished please be sure to switch steamer off and sluice down tiled seats.
- We have provided relaxing lavender and enlivening eucalyptus essential oils for guests to use in the Steam Room.
- Put a few drops on the top of the small round silver steam outlet low on the wall opposite the door before switching on (Obviously the steam outlet gets very hot when in use so please be careful).
Reed Beds
- We have a very eco friendly reed bed soak away system for sewage and all waste water.
- Please only put loo paper down the loo. Everything else (including tampons, all wipes, sanitary pads, nappies, condoms etc) should all go into the sanitary bags and bins provided next to each lavatory.
- DO NOT pour large quantities of milk or alcohol down the sink as it ruins the delicate balance of the waste ecosystem (especially when clearing up on your last day – just leave it in the fridge and our cleaners will remove it for you).
- Do not go into or allow children into the locked reed beds area - they are fragile sewage ecosystem and can be dangerous for humans.
Accidents Happen
- We understand that with 22 people sharing a space: accidents can happen.
- If anything gets broken or goes missing please email or text us ASAP on help@tregulland.co.uk so we can replace or fix them, often without charge.
- If we discover that something is broken or missing in the 6 hours we have for a complete changeover (to return the houses to a pristine state for our next guests) we will have to charge you all the costs incurred for an instant replacement.
Stains and Laundry
- When you are on holiday with lots of people (and children!): accidents happen. However, with most stains the sooner you deal with the problem, the easier it is to remove.
- As this is a self catering holiday let, we do therefore ask that you react swiftly to remove any accidental stains on our linen immediately.
- We have supplied some Vanish stain removal bars as they are very effective on our linen.
- Please check on the internet/Google how to clean different stains off as the most effective treatment is often dependent on the type of stain and material.
- Please do let us know of anything you have stained, and are unable to remove it.
- Please email us immediately if you have an upholstery stain (eg on the headboards or sofas) as we will need to get a specialist cleaner in.
Security
- We supply a standard safe for you to store valuables in
Noise Policy
- Music and other noise must be kept to reasonable levels at all times and be inaudible from outside the property overnight between 9pm and 9am
Barford Beach House
Take Care - Flat Roofs
- Do not allow ANYONE (especially children) to walk on the flat roofs, they're not designed to take any weight.
Tensioned Wire Balcony Railings
- Never allow anyone to climb the horizontal wires of the balconies and railings as its not safe, plus it will stretch them and render them useless - which is a very expensive (for you) and tedious (for us) to remedy.
Security
- Always make sure ALL of the glass sliding doors in every room are shut before leaving the house (the weather can get very wild very swiftly on the coast).
- We supply a standard safe for you to store valuables in
Kitchen Sense & Safety
- Please don’t use any metal utensils or scratchy cleaning sponges on the non stick frying pans.
- We also ask that no candles or open flames are used anywhere inside the house.
- Please do not pour large quantities of milk or alcohol down the sink as it ruins the delicate balance of the waste ecosystem (especially when clearing up on your last day – just leave it in the fridge and our cleaners will remove it for you).
Hot Tub
Safety Notices - Be Careful
- Never leave children unattended near the outdoor wood burner/oven, hot tub or sauna when they are in use.
- Open fires and very hot water are dangerous.
- Always stir the water with the paddle before getting in as the surface layer of the water can become much hotter than in the body of the tub. Always check the temperature before getting in.

This insulated lid is surprisingly expensive to make, and so sadly we will have to charge you if any damage is caused by or to the loose hot tub lid.
NB: to drain the tub quickly: remove the short hoselock hose from underneath the tub on the sea side. Make sure you reattach before filling. Please put out the fire, drain and wipe down the tub after use.
Sauna
- To turn the sauna on there are two knobs on the bottom of the heating unit itself, one for the length of time you want it on and the other is the temperature.
- Simply twist the dials to your required time and temperature, leave for 15 minutes for it to get up to heat and enjoy!
- NB: only turn the dial into the area marked in white for instant heating (The black section is the delayed start setting).
- You may periodically use the water bucket and ladle provided to create a little steam – now the warnings:
- Do not leave the door of the sauna open at any time.
- Be careful – sweating profusely can make you light headed – don’t stay too long (say 15 mins) without cooling down intermittently.
- Make sure you drink plenty of water before, during and after taking a sauna and obviously don’t take drugs or drink alcohol before using the sauna.
- It is not advised for children to use the sauna as they cannot regulate their body temperature.
- Children must not use the sauna unsupervised – the coals get extremely hot and will burn you if you touch them.
- Do not put too much water on the hot coals – they are heated using electricity – excess water and electricity are very dangerous.
- Please make sure you turn the dials to off when you have finished with the sauna.
Cold Bucket Drop
- Please DO use our fabulous Cold Bucket Drop or the shower opposite to cool down occasionally- pull the chain to operate – it will fill up again automatically (takes 2 minutes) (NB: please do not swing from the bucket!)
Wanson Mouth Beach
- The lovely little beach we look out onto is privately owned by the other residents of our hamlet
- We are lucky enough to have right of access to it from the gate off our lawn.
- Please treat it with respect and leave no litter or dog mess.
- It’s not a swimming beach.
- The shore is protected by heavily striated rocks which make wonderful rock pools stuffed with crabs, shrimps, snails and anemones – take a net and see what you can discover!
Dogs
We welcome well behaved dogs at Barford… however:
- Please make sure you clear up all dog poo from around the house and grounds and only put the dog poo bag in the designated DOG POO BIN
- Cornwall Council does not have tipper trucks for rubbish collection they simply pick the large tied black bin sacks (full of general rubbish, food waste etc.) out of the wheelie bins.
- Therefore do not put dog poo bags loose in the wheelie bins they will not be collected – and we may have to fine you a fouling charge.
- No dogs upstairs or in the bedrooms.
- Dogs are not to be left alone in the house.
- The best place for them to sleep is in the washroom.
- No dogs on the sofas, chairs or beds please.
Noise Policy
- Music and other noise must be kept to reasonable levels at all times and be inaudible from outside the property overnight between 9pm and 9am

- Due to the very high winds and seagulls please turn off jets and replace cover when not in use - be aware of your children at all times.
- In very high winds do not attempt to use the hot tub/remove the lid.

- Please do not use any soaps, lotions or oils in the hot tub.
- It is not recommended for young children, pregnant women, elderly people nor anyone with health problems to use the hot tub.
- Obviously don’t take drugs or get drunk before using the hot tub.

- NB: guests will be charged for any extra cleaning needed in cases of misuse. e.g. removing debris (oil, sand, glass etc).
Noise Policy
Music and other noise must be kept to reasonable levels at all times and be inaudible from outside the property overnight between 9pm and 9am
Blackbird Houseboat
Blackbird House boat is permanently moored on a landlocked fishing lake

- No sitting or standing on the corrugated services hatch - you'll break the water, heat, light and sewage connections to the boat
- No climbing onto the top of the boat
- Please only use the BBQ or firepit for outdoor cooking/fires - no ground fires allowed

- Never leave anything on top of the woodburner
- always shut the woodburner door to make it burn efficently
